Course Description and Objectives:
This course is designed to provide incoming undergraduate students with an opportunity to meet and engage with some of the world class researchers and clinicians working in the area of aging at UIUC. Opportunities will be provided for students to tour laboratories and to become engaged in the wide range of different research areas. This course actively involves students in an overview of aging research activities and methodologies, highlights issues in the interpretation of research outcomes, and emphasizes applications of research findings to real life problems.

1. Select a living older adult (65 years or older) who is well known to you personally.
2. Interview the person.
3. Based on your interview and the information you have learned in class, write a Personalized Aging Profile for your interviewee. The profile should contain a detailed evaluation of the individual's physiological, psychological, and social aging. Care should be taken to compare your subject with typical or average people of the same chorological age.
4. Your paper should reflect a degree of involvement commensurate with a 100 level undergraduate termpaper.
5. You will be expected to demonstrate that you have read widely in the literature.
6. Please type your work and reference all sources appropriately.

Attendance:
Attendance is mandatory. Persistent unexcused absences may result in a decrease of one letter grade.
